Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirla and Maoist chairman Prachanda met at Prime Minister’s official residence Baluwatar and discussed about the recent agreement between the ruling seven party alliance (SPA) and Maoists and its implementation.
This is the first meeting between the Prime Minister and Maoist supremo after the ruling SPA and Maoists signed ahe deal on Tuesday paving the way for formal entry of the Maoists into the peaceful political mainstream.
According to reports, the duo discussed about the implementation of the agreement.
During their one hour-long meeting, Prime Minister Koirala asked the Maoists to strictly implement the accord. They also discussed about the issue of arms management and time table for the implementation of pact.
Prachanda briefed the Prime Minister about his meeting with the Personal Representative of United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, Ian Martin and their discussion on the issue of arms management.
Prachanda added that the UN team is shortly visiting the temporary camps of the Maoists to give the report that whether these places are suitable for the cantonments or not.
Prachanda along with Maoist second-in-command Dr. Babu Ram Bhattrai and four deputy commanders of Maoists held discussion with Martin about the arms management on Thursday.
Prachanda also informed the Prime Minister that Maoist armies have already started to stay in cantonments.
Similarly, Prime Minister Koirala also briefed Prachanda about the UN willingness to assist Nepal peace process.
Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukharjee and US Ambassador to Nepal James F. Moriarty also called on Prime Minister Koirala this morning and reiterated their commitment to assist Nepal peace process.
