KATHMANDU, May 20 - A youth shot dead a girl before killing himself at Chovar area in the capital Sunday afternoon.
According to Metropolitan Police Sector Office, Kirtipur, one Pukar Sigdel, 24, of Kuleshwor area in the capital shot dead Prabina Dhungana, 21, at Chovar Sallaghari before killing himself at about 1 pm Sunday. Police said the slain Dhungana was married to a youth from eastern Nepal some one week ago.
The youth had walked all the way from Chovar to Tyanglaphanta, some 2 kilometers away from Chovar, before pointing the pistol at his own temple. Pedestrians walking past the area informed police after finding him struggling for life. According to Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Hanumandhoka, he died while undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital.
Police have found similar cartridges at Chovar Sallaghari and Tyanglaphanta. Among other things, police have recovered three live bullets and a group photograph of three girls from the incident site at Tyanglaphanta. The slain girl is one of those shown in the photograph.
According to police, the girl was shot through the head from behind. There are no injuries in other parts of her body. Her newly married husband works in a non-government office in Kathmandu. Police suspect the duo could have had a love affair in the past. Sigdel had recently come to Nepal after completing his Hotel Management Study in Singapore. Sources close to his family said he was planning to go to Canada for further study.
